ABOUT THE ARTISAN
Tara Projects is a pioneering Fair Trade organization that has been serving marginalized artisan communities in Northern India (Delhi-National Capital Region, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh) for over four decades.Founded in the early seventies by educationist Prof. Shyam S. Sharma and missionary Sister Stephanie Mass, Tara Projects is committed to promoting Fair Trade principles and addressing the socio-economic needs of grassroots artisans.
As a catalyst for change, Tara Projects actively fights against human exploitation, poverty, and illiteracy, striving to restore dignity and inclusion to marginalized communities. The organization supports over 300 artisans through product development, production, and marketing of handicrafts such as jewelry, soapstone crafts, Zardozi items, and accessories.Regular capacity-building programs and training sessions are provided to enhance the skills of these artisans.
