MEET THE ARTISANS: ABKA Leather

ABKA Leather is owned and managed by women, with eighty percent of its employees being female. A portion of each ABKA Leather piece sold is set aside to sponsor young girls in the rural village of Dessie, Ethiopia, covering school fees, meals, and accommodations so they can focus on learning.

The girls are also offered internships at ABKA Leather’s workshop in Addis Ababa, where they gain hands-on experience and critical skills for future employment. Through education, mentorship, and meaningful work, ABKA Leather helps women and girls move forward with confidence.

MEET THE ARTISANS: Street Hope

Street Hope began as a group of women from Mathare slum in Nairobi who had lived on the streets for much of their lives. After partnering with Mercy House Global to learn the art of hand-stitching, these women are growing in skill, confidence, and stability.

Today, their work helps provide food and education for their children, supports women as they learn to read, and opens doors for lasting change. Every stitch reflects resilience, creativity, and hope in hard places.
