ABOUT THE ARTISAN

Marquet partners with a talented jewelry team in Northern Thailand to blend traditional craft with contemporary design. Founded in 2002, the team has grown to eighty women, including makers and designers, who collaborate through a central workshop that sends materials to hilltop villages where most artisans live.

This flexible, home-based work model allows artisans to support their families, care for children, and continue important cultural traditions. Over time, fair-trade practices have helped strengthen entire communities, supporting improved homes, schools, and quality of life. Fifteen of the women are ethnically Akha, a group known for intricate beadwork used in traditional dress. Through Marquet, these artisans are able to apply their heritage skills to create beautiful, meaningful jewelry that honors their culture while supporting sustainable livelihoods.
