ABOUT THE ARTISAN
Asha Project has a passion for teaching women that they are worth more than they were brought up to believe. Asha's desire is that they would find hope for change and for a better future. A different woman prepared the materials, stitched the fabric, assembled the ornament, and did the final check. They make it a priority not only to make sure that all of our women receive a fair wage but also to make sure they know the value and worth they have as a mother, as a wife, as a friend, and as a woman using her skills to help support her family. Asha Project is a community. Not only do our women meet in small groups in their own neighborhoods once a week for community and handicrafts, but they are available to do life together and love and support each other every day of the week. All handicraft groups are led by women who themselves started out as a member of a handicraft group. They not only want to teach women how to be empowered but also how to empower other women.
This order of hand towels for MHG Clubs touched the hands of 35 women in three villages and created 1400 hours of dignified work.
MEET THE ARTISAN: Tushi
Tushi joined Asha Project in 2021, where she creates beautiful beadwork and has found a new sense of hope and independence. Before joining, she had no source of income and often felt dependent on others. Today, she enjoys working and praying alongside the other artisans and feels confident in her ability to contribute to her family. Through her earnings, Tushi has helped pay for her son’s education, purchased a phone, and gained the freedom to provide for her own needs. She now describes herself as self-reliant and believes a bright future is possible. Her work has given her confidence to pursue her dreams and shown her family what she is capable of achieving.
